Oden Fong On Proposition 8

Maybe we should render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things which are Gods. Marriage between a man and a woman is God's proclamation. God doesn't recognize marriage outside of what He had decreed, just as Caesar doesn't recognize God. The carnal mind cannot discern spiritual things.

If Caesar decides to have same-sex marriages, we may grieve but have no say in the matter. Our votes do not count when you have people in power who say that the proposition you voted for was illegal to begin with.

They have already decided that homosexuality is something people are born to be and therefore it is normal. If you feel something strongly with great conviction, it's normal! Even if the biological plumbing doesn't fit.

These same minds believe that we are a cosmic accident; from the Big Bang to many smaller bangs. Our existence is purely accidental and there is no Designer.

I predict that same-sex marriages will become commonplace in the world's civilizations because man has fallen so far from God that morality will become more and more perverse until morality no longer exists for the majority of humanity.

It's in the prophecies. Perhaps, we should, rather than trying to fight what is already going to happen (politically), we should fight to rise above the darkness ourselves and stay close to the Lord.

The church is filled with carnality. Why should anyone listen to the Body of Christ if the Body is carnal? Most secular people believe that they are at least as moral as the Christian they know.

Jesus and the apostles, including Paul did not fight directly against secular perversion, but proclaimed the kingdom of God in contrast. They did not try to overthrow the idol worshipping culture with it's temple prostitutes. They extended God's pardon of salvation through Jesus Christ to all who would accept it.

Behold Noah and his family, how they escaped while the rest of the world was washed away. Judgement is in the hands of the Almighty! Those who scoff at God will find themselves at the wrong end of His judgment. It's so sad. It's heartbreaking that mankind has chosen (once again) this path leading to his own destruction.

I think this blog is utter garbage! This is exactly the kind of false doctrine that I've been talking to you about. Many times it sounds like it's right but at closer examination it's full of lies. We are to follow the laws of the land we live in, except when they go against the laws of God. Just because Caesar thought something was right didn't mean Christians necessarily had to follow. If you go by this way of thinking it would be alright for us to join into the gay lifestyle just because it was legal in the land.

Who says that back in biblical times they didn't get involved in political things. Just preaching the truth was enough to have charges brought against them and thrown into jail or killed. All but one died a horrific death. That sounds pretty political to me! We are also suppose to pray for our country as well as our leaders. In my opinion to many of us are turning a blind eye on things that are happening in our country.

We also live in a country where we have a say in what is right and what is wrong. We are to fight the good fight of faith. This country was founded on the word of God and I believe its worth fighting for. This young man thinks we ought to just surrender because these things are going to happen anyway. Sounds to me like he doesn't have much passion or conviction in what he believes in...

God bless!

I think Oden & James hit the Total Call of the Church in this or any century! We are the salt, light, conscience, warning sirens of the world! We need to preach the Gospel, the Kingdom, judgment, God's power to change of hearts first & always. But like our forefathers, we have the liberty to vote, protest, preach, run for office & proclaim God's principles & power to change nations. It's not an either/or, but BOTH. Especially depending on your personal calling, gifting, anointing to fight where our Commander in Chief positions you! Let's encourage & pray for each other to be totally filled & faithful in Jesus for spiritual & social revolution! Fight on, saints!

Oden is partly right in that in a democratic republic, politics is "the art of the possible" and in a culture which has basically left biblical morality behind, it is now "possible" for same-sex unions to be called "marriage" because enough citizens have accepted homosexuality as normative sexual behavior. As Christians, we can't "stop" that because our votes only count as much as the next guy. BUT that doesn't mean we stop declaring the truth, and lovingly declare to our deceived society that it is not God's best design for human sexuality - he has something better.

AND, "marriage" is clearly a term which implies a sacred and solemn state, full of spiritual and yes, religious meaning. "Same sex union with full legal standing," yes, if we have to give in on that as citizens of a pluralistic society -- anything but the word "marriage" which has meant one thing for thousands of years in thousands of cultures. No apologies for taking that stand. But if we are ultimately not successful, we need not despair- Jesus is still Lord of all.
